Conwy Recycling scheme

Many people are finding the details of this scheme difficult to understand. Here are a few points to clarify information on the Conwy CBC scheme.

Batteries, Mobile Phones and Ink Cartridges.

Sainsburys supermarket, Rhyl have FREEPOST Envelopes for recycling these items. They are available at the Customer Services desk. Get one for a neighbour as well.

Domestic batteries can be handed in at all public libraries (except Llangernw and Cerrigydrudion).

Tetrapak

Beverage cartons are recyclable. Take them to special collection banks at Asda in Kinmel Bay; Tesco in Abergele and Colwyn Crescent car park, Rhos on Sea.

Plastic

These items are not recyclable:

Hard brittle plastics, like CD cases, hair combs, disposable knives and forks and Biro's
Black bin bags

These containers (except Black) are recyclable, their codes can usually be found on the bottom/underside:

PET. Drink bottles, squash bottles.
HDPE. Milk, detergent bottles and beauty product bottles.
PVC. larger squash bottles

The Recycling banks accept them.

Plastic Bags

Note both Asda and Tesco supply 'Bags for Life' for a nominal charge. They are replaced free when worn.

Recycling Banks

These are numerous and situated locally, most Supermarkets have one. They accept paper and glass.

At these sites there are large modular banks in the car parks for clothes and plastic.

Tesco, Abergele
Somerfield, Pensarn
Asda, Kinmel Bay

Recycling Centres

Accepting all batteries, household rubbish, garden rubbish, cardboard, envelopes, fluorescent tubes, mirrors, plastic, pyrex glass, window glass, oil, paint, yellow pages, in fact just about everything else. Two sites at:

Mochdre, adjacent to the Crematorium
St George, Rhuddlan
shared drive with Thorncliffe skip hire

Paper

Envelopes can only go to St George or Mochdre.

Your green bag content and paper from the recycling banks (Tesco, Somerfield and ASDA) goes to Shotton Paper Mill which produces recycled paper for the newspaper industry. However adhesive particles from envelopes are a particular problem and are not acceptable at Shotton.

The recycling centres (Mochdre and St George) send all paper waste including envelopes to Biffa Waste to be recycled as tissue paper.

Help

Anyone who is elderly, disabled or infirm and requires assistance with their collection should contact the Recycling dept on 01492 575337. Assistance is available after an assessment by the Recycling Performance Officer.
