Welcome to Abergele and District University of the Third Age (U3A) in North Wales. We are a registered charity (No. 1039462) and a member of the Third Age Trust.

Abergele University of the Third Age offers adult education courses, interest groups, lectures and social activities for retired people and the over 50's.

We hope you will come along to one of our Open Meetings and feel inclined to join one or more of our 'interest groups'.

Our district has no formal boundaries; present members come from Penmaenmawr in the west, Holywell in the east and Denbigh in the south.

Our main areas are Abergele, Conwy, Colwyn Bay, Kinmel Bay, Penrhyn Bay, Prestatyn, Rhyl, and Rhos on Sea.

Why Third Age? The First Age is the age of childhood and school, the Second Age is the age of work, career, family and social responsibilities, and the Third Age is the age of retirement and freedom.

The University of the Third Age began in France in 1972, and the first British U3A was established in Cambridge in 1982.

There are now 670 groups in the UK, 7 in North Wales and a total membership in the UK of 188,469 as of 26 March 2008.

Our Abergele group started in 1991, the first in North Wales. This year's membership is 268.
